Charbonnel Etching Grounds and Additives

Etching grounds are used to cover the etching plate, making it resistant during etching. Etching additives, like oils are mixed with ink to affect viscosity, brightness and colour in printing.

Charbonnel Soft grounds 30g are non-drying grounds, applied with a pad, dabber or roller: Textures and materials pressed into their non-drying surface will lift off, leaving the metal bared, ready for the bite of the acid. The plate must be heated before application.

Charbonnel Hard Grounds 30g can be wrapped in a material filter and rubbed on the pre-heated metal plate to obtain an even surface before smoking. Once the ground is applied and dry, a picture can be drawn with a hard point in order to expose the metal beneath the ground. The matt black finish obtained makes etching work very clear. 

Charbonnel Light Oil 500ml Light grade linseed oil at 5 viscosity level. Mix with inks to reduce viscosity and improve brightness and colour of printing.   

Charbonnel has been producing ground inks and varnishes for intaglio and lithographic art printing since1862 in Paris. Charbonnel has been chosen by renowned

painters, Picasso, Renoir, Degas and Manet for intaglio inks, and poster designers like Toulouse-Lautrec  and Signac.

However, on occasion goods that are sealed within cartons may be faulty as a result of a manufacturing defect from our suppliers. If you receive a damaged or defective item, please contact us within 5 business days of receiving the goods at info@artlova.com.au Please supply your order number from your original confirmation e-mail, as well as a description and images of the damage or defect, along with your e-mail address and phone number. Once we receive all the necessary information we will authorise for the return of the goods and arrange a credit towards your next purchase or send a replacement product after we receive the original item(s) back.
